The HealthTech Innovation Days (HTID) drive and foster collaborations within the European healthcare ecosystem. This year, HTID took place in Paris on October 5 and 6, 2020, with the aim of promoting access for all patients to cutting-edge healthcare technologies. To maximize the opportunities for exchanging with one another, HTID was a hybrid event this year, combining a physical presence with virtual meetings.

This event, co-organized with EIT Health, featured conferences and panel discussions, networking and private meetings between innovative European HealthTech companies, pharmaceutical companies, life sciences-specialized investors, healthcare experts, KOLs and institutional representatives.

Emmanuel Macron opened the second edition of the HTID forum on Monday, October 5 via video link and sought to reach out to French Biotechs: “Today my ambition is how do we make France a global leader in healthcare technologies by 2030? How do we make France the leading European country for the production of new medicines? How do we make France the new Boston?”

In order to provide France with the necessary means to become “the new Boston”, €25 billion will be invested in research over the next 10 years, and €6 billion (€1.3 billion have already been invested) will be used for strengthening investments in Bpifrance-labelled funds, with a strong focus on bioproduction and connected health.  From 2021, the French Medicines Agency (ANSM) will set up a system providing simplicity and visibility for both medicines and medical devices in order to facilitate access to innovations for patients, while the European market must open up and transform itself.

President Macron, who listed top French companies such as Cellectis (cancer cell therapy), DNA Script (DNA printer) and BioSerenity (medical diagnostic solutions), insisted on the importance of innovation for both patients and the healthcare system: “the key to a powerful healthcare system is innovation”.

The President concluded by saying that “France must become the place where companies and products are invented, produced and brought to international markets”.
